SCHUNK Italy opens new CoLab

From now on, customers in Italy will also be able to benefit from this new, unique service. On July 11, the SCHUNK subsidiary in Lurate Caccivio near Como opened its new robot application center, where new automation approaches can be validated under realistic conditions in the future. CoLab engineers accompany newcomers to automation throughout the complete process from planning to the actual application. The Italian CoLab is the second in Europe.

Automated processes with industrial and collaborative robotics boost efficiency in manufacturing. However, getting started with automation is not always easy as there are many aspects to consider. This is exactly where SCHUNK is providing support with its decades of application experience. In the Italian robot application center, customer automation requests can now be analyzed, checked for feasibility and validated. The goal: to minimize the investment risk for customers and to offer concrete support in starting an automated process. With this practical approach, SCHUNK is reducing the barriers to starting with automation for customers, who can test their SCHUNK-recommended application before purchasing. "Our CoLab is also a multifunctional space for training and events together with our partners," explains Andrea Lolli, Sales Manager of Gripping Systems, who led the implementation of the project in the Italian branch.

Technology partners are part of it

For the opening event on July 11, various demo applications were prepared with the support of robot manufacturers ABB, FANUC, Omron and UR to illustrate the full range of possibilities to visitors. The spectrum ranged from handling sensitive parts with the bio-inspired gripping technology ADHESO to automated surface processing with the new SCHUNK tools R-EMENDO, and to bin picking applications. Semi-automated machine loading with cobots and the practical SCHUNK application kits MTB were also simulated. There are virtually no limits to the possibilities. SCHUNK shows you how it's done.
