Workpiece clamping technology November 2023

Positioning in high-end palletizing in a matter of seconds

Flat, more stable and more high-performance: SCHUNK has further developed its VERO-S NSA plus palletizing module especially for automated machine tool loading and upgraded it to its new NSA3 generation. The stainless steel clamping module is part of the extensive SCHUNK VERO-S modular system for efficient workpiece clamping. The NSA3 is 100% installation compatible with the previous model.
Product image – VERO-S NSA3 The palletizing module VERO-S NSA3 is a 100% compatible successor of the tried-and-tested VERO-S NSA plus. Users can simply continue using their existing clamping pallets and programs.

When it comes to interaction between machine tool and robot loading, the pneumatic palletizing module from SCHUNK has become an indispensable tool. It can be used to fix pallets on a machine table in a matter of seconds with highest precision. The low overall height of the modules enables maximum utilization of the workspace. An integrated pallet lift-off function facilitates process-safe changeover via a robot, especially with heavy pallets.

In this latest generation, application expert SCHUNK has now optimized the maintenance-free, robust module, especially with regard to unmanned production. The height of the new, more compact NSA3 has been further reduced. The special shape of the module prevents formation of chips or accumulation of cooling lubricant. In addition, the integrated cleaning function has been enhanced. In addition to the flat contact surface, an even more powerful blow-off function now keeps the short taper and clamping slides free of chips. This and the additional monitoring of the flat contact surfaces using dynamic pressure enable smooth operation around the clock.

Robust and dimensionally stable

The modules are clamped by spring force without an external energy supply, are positive-locking and self-locking, so that the full pull-down force is maintained even in the event of a pressure drop. The force is 3,000 N and can be increased to a remarkable 10,000 N when the turbo function is activated. The improved dimensional stability of the module body ensures that higher tilting moments and shear forces can be reliably absorbed. The clamping pallets can be positioned on the NSA3 modules within seconds with a repeat accuracy of < 0.005 mm. This is ensured by high-precision short taper centering Depending on the application, the modules can be combined in any quantity.

Monitoring integrated by default

All monitoring activities such as "Module opened" or "Module closed" are integrated in the NSA3 by default for process-reliable pallet exchange. The clamping rings rest on four flat surfaces on the outer diameter, which are monitored by means of dynamic pressure monitoring. Due to the hermetic sealing as well as the stainless steel design, the module remains maintenance-free over its entire service life.

The VERO-S quick-change pallet modules form the basis of the extensive SCHUNK clamping technology modular system for automated machine loading. In combination with the clamping devices and robot modules, a wide range of clamping options can be realized flexibly with short set-up times.
