From AI hype to practical application

For the second year in a row, SCHUNK participated in the AI House Davos as part of the World Economic Forum. The goal was to promote knowledge exchange on artificial intelligence (AI), share experiences, and actively shape developments in applied AI.

At the AI House Davos, leading experts from around the world came together to exchange knowledge on AI, strengthen collaboration, and drive the responsible advancement of this key technology. SCHUNK also participated for the second time and shared its experiences of successfully implementing AI within the company. The theme this time was: “After the hype.“ Timo Gessmann, CTO of SCHUNK says: “This is well phrased. Because, in the industry, we are now beyond the initial curiosity and high expectations surrounding AI. SCHUNK, for example, has already integrated AI into its processes, products, and services. This means we can now engage in discussions backed by concrete experience.” Together with other experts from industry and academia, he discussed on January 23, 2025, in the panel “The AI journey: empowering SMEs to the digital age,“ how AI-related barriers can be removed, especially for small and medium-sized companies, and how the adoption of AI can be facilitated to increase productivity.

Other participants included:
Dr. Gunther Wobser (President and CEO, LAUDA), Prof. James A. Landay (Professor of Computer Science, Stanford University), Prof Dr. Dr. h.c. Helmut Krcmar (Representative of the TUM Campus Heilbronn), Dr. Rüdiger Eichin (VP SAP ‘Labs Munich’ SE & Director Steinbeis i2e).

Open knowledge sharing regarded as a priority

SCHUNK is actively involved in AI ecosystems to foster dialogue and set the right course for cooperation. The company collaborates with partners worldwide and across industries, including IPAI, the future European center for applied AI technology in Heilbronn. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of technology in practical solutions and thereby benefit from new knowledge. “We have learned that working together allows us to move faster – especially when it comes to AI,“ says Gessmann. “That’s why we are also engaged here at AI House. We are ready for open exchange and are expanding our network. Together we develop tailored AI solutions that empower our clients and secure their sustainable success.”
