A visit to IPAI’s hub

The first IPAI Experience Day for invited guests took place in Heilbronn on October 23, 2024. Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism of Baden-Württemberg, and Moritz Gräter, the CEO of the IPAI, kicked off the event with a joint welcoming speech in the well-attended "living room" of the IPAI. The aim of the evening was not only to provide exclusive insights into the work of the IPAI, but above all to promote networking among the participants. The SCHUNK office at the IPAI also welcomed all interested guests with open doors, and demonstrated what intelligent gripping can look like.

Various keynotes, panels and community talks formed the supporting program of the first IPAI Experience Day. The day was all about networking. Interested parties were able to engage in a direct exchange with the member companies who work with AI on a daily basis. The entire IPAI building was open for this purpose, and offered participants a wide range of playful opportunities to come into contact with the topic of AI.

Panel discussion: Human AI in the German SME sector

Timo Gessmann, the CTO of SCHUNK, discussed in a panel how human AI can be used successfully in German SMEs. The participants all agreed that the most important aspects of innovation culture are openness to new ideas, enthusiasm and courage. "And above all: just do it!" said Timo Gessmann, encouraging involvement. "It was important for us at SCHUNK to quickly enable all employees to try out AI and learn with it - without fear of contact." The medium-sized, family-owned company has been involved with the topic of artificial intelligence from the very beginning, and integrates it into its products, processes and services. "The corporate culture at SCHUNK is characterized by enthusiasm for new technologies," said Timo Gessmann during the discussion.

The IPAI SPACES

They are also known as the "living room" of the IPAI - the IPAI SPACES. Opened in June 2024, this modern meeting place covering more than 6,000 square meters is used for the exchange of ideas and collaboration between research, AI development and established partners. As a partner and member of the IPAI, SCHUNK has its own office and a real laboratory space there. The open concept simplifies the exchange between members who are dealing with similar issues. The visitor center on the first floor is also open to all interested visitors who want to learn more about artificial intelligence.
