The automotive industry is undergoing the biggest transformation it has ever seen. This is also changing the future of motor racing. In two years, the NXT Gen Cup has evolved from the concept into a new European racing series for all-electric touring cars. The DTM and Formula E will become the platform for the new competition at six races this year. SCHUNK is accompanying this ambitious path as an official sponsor and partner in order to reaffirm its commitment to shaping the change towards electromobility and to inspire the next generation about the new technology. "The partnership with SCHUNK fits perfectly with our mission to promote young talent in the world of motorsports and electromobility as a whole. We are looking forward to embarking on this journey together," said Fredrik Lestrup, Co-founder of the NXT Gen Cup.
The competition was set up by the racing pioneers in the Lestrup Racing Team to offer young racing drivers perspective and help them progress in the world of electric motorsports. Because being part of this racing career platform is about more than just racing. In addition to improving their skills on the race track, young female and male drivers are part of a comprehensive training program that fosters skill development in sponsorship, business administration, PR and media relations as well as social media. In line with the motto "Arrive and Drive", the young drivers are supported and encouraged in all areas. A pioneering spirit is palpable here, which has also been a hallmark at SCHUNK from the very beginning. As an official partner of the NXT Gen Cup, SCHUNK would like to support this initiative for fresh talent and assist these capable drivers by providing valuable knowledge. "We are proud to support this new generation of electric racing drivers and to contribute to the success of these young talents as part of a healthier future," says Kristina I. Schunk, CEO of SCHUNK SE & Co. KG, describing the reasons for the partnership.
The NXT Gen Cup will be the world's first fully electric junior touring car cup. It was created by Fredrik Lestrup and the Lestrup Racing Team. Young drivers get behind the wheel of the LRT NXT1, an all-electric racing car based on the chassis of the MINI Cooper SE and converted for racing. The Cup will join the DTM and Formula E for six races in 2024 and will visit Germany three times in total. The opening race weekend will take place on April 13 and 14, 2024 in Misano, Italy, followed by Monaco, Berlin, Norisring, London and Hockenheim.
