The Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (Ipai) in Heilbronn is set to become the largest ecosystem for artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe. This is where the trailblazers of the future – companies, start-ups, associations, research and universities – gather to pool resources and solve future challenges with the help of this key technology. SCHUNK is part of this ecosystem of innovation. "We use the close relationship with local companies and research institutions to intensify dialog, establish a strong network and work together on innovative projects in the field of artificial intelligence," explained Dr. Martin May, Director Innovation & Technology Management.
Some of the partners now gave insights into their work at Ipai in a first official event. Schwarz Digits, Würth, mmmake and SCHUNK invited visitors to a joint welcome party at their still temporary premises on October 24, 2023. In a panel discussion, they explained their visions and the reasons for their involvement in Ipai. "We have a unique opportunity here to bring technologies and people together in one place. Here we can share our knowledge and experience, learn from each other and become faster together," summed up SCHUNK CTO Timo Gessmann. The open, trusting culture of exchange at Ipai brings partners together, but also provides the growing community with access to education and discussion about AI.
The Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence originates from a competition for a funded center for artificial intelligence as a central component of the AI strategy of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. Heilbronn successfully prevailed in the site selection process. Since 2022, the lighthouse project has been moving forward at pace, supported by strategic partners and members. The central guiding principle is to create an innovation platform for trust-based AI for the benefit of society. From 2024, a first building of its own will be constructed in the direct vicinity of the current location in the "Wohlgelegen" future park in Heilbronn. A visitors' center is also planned where it will be possible to experience AI. The infrastructure should be in place at the final location of the AI quarter in the "Steinäcker" area in the north of the city by the end of 2026.
